CATHOLIC CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
All Saint’s Day (November 2) might well be thought of as the Church’s Memorial Day. We continue to honor throughout the month those who have gone before us. We could consider November the ‘month of all saints’ or ‘holy souls’. While memorializing the dead during this month of harvest and dying, the Church continues to recognize Jesus as Lord of the living and the dead.
El Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead is a rich Mexican tradition celebrated on All Soul’s Day (November 2). A visit to the graveyard may not sound like a picnic, but that is exactly where the event is held. Candy skulls are a popular symbol of this celebration.
